Thanks to Red Rover Pizza (Plymouth, MN), on Sunday we were swept away to a scenic hilltop…in Naples, the birthplace of the pizza. They treated our guests to a meal of Neapolitan-style pizza. Over 100 pizzas were served. Olivia Stenvold and the lodge staff added caesar salad with homemade dressing, Patty Breker’s signature wheat salad and homemade desserts including the Italian favorite tiramisu. Some guests enjoyed Italian wine and beer with their pizza, a perfect pairing. And don’t forget about the Dean Martin playing in the background. That’s Amore!

Terry Savoie and his wife Karen along with their friends Terry and Laurie Cross entertained us all evening long with their fun craft of making wood-fired pizza. Terry started by ‘opening’ the freshly made dough by tossing and spinning it in the air. He even went for height. Terry handed off the opened dough to Karen who made the pizza to order with fresh ingredients. They named their pizzas Pepperoni, Sausage, Cheese, Margie, Artie, Billy Goat, BBQ Chicken and Veggie. Some of their authentic ingredients included fresh mozzarella, olive oil, sea salt, fresh basil, chives and arugula, caramelized onions and goat cheese. Once the pizza was topped, Terry Cross ‘fired’ it in the 800 degree oven for 90 seconds. Oh, the aroma! Guests watched (and smelled) as their bubbling hot ‘pie’ came out of the oven and was placed before Laurie, who sliced it and served it immediately. There is nothing like a steaming hot wood-fired pizza!
