For over 150 years, one family has been making German beer in New Ulm, Minnesota. Jace Marti, who will be joining us for our Summer Beer Dinner, is the sixth generation of brewers which began in 1860 with August Schell, a young immigrant from Germany.
Surviving the Dakota uprising, prohibition and every beer trend since the civil war, August Schell Brewing Company has been and still is a local favorite. Now with a wild new craft beer renaissance upon us, Jace and his family have doubled down on tradition and German beers. They continue to brew reliably great beers, preserving the heritage that made Schell’s what it is today, but exploring the vast world of German beers as they launch a new beer akin to a Berliner-Weisse (sour beer) known as the ‘Champagne of the North’. This new beer is actually a whole lineup of new beers and in fact, in new brewery known as The Starkeller. Fermented in German fashion for up to 2 years in 80 year old refurbished cypress wood tanks with brettanomyces and bacteria, these sour beers are truly sensational. We will be enjoying one of these new beers together at our Summer Beer Dinner.
For our Summer Beer Dinner, Daniel Miles, Executive Chef, Chino Latino – Minneapolis, will be preparing a five course pairing menu. Chef Daniel has been a regular guest chef for our popular beer dinners.
Stay tuned for details!
Oh, and congrats to Schell’s for being voted Minnesota’s FAVORITE BREWERY in this elaborate Star Tribune March Madness-style contest of 128 MN breweries!
